Queer Voices

Pride reminds us to be unapologetic about our desires and needs. It allows us to imagine a world that doesn’t just tolerate otherness, but thrives on it.

This remains necessary because
most of us, most of the time
still have to hide in one way or another
to silence ourselves
to assimilate into systems
that treat our existence
as a footnote, an exception, an error.

Pride is about creating spaces for ourselves
that are full of potential and radical difference,
about coming together as a community
and practicing what we preach.

Queer Voices is a narrative project that attempts to provide one such space. Each of us has our own experiences with being queer and relating to the LGBTQIAA+ community. In conversations and art, queer folks of Groningen share stories and thoughts on being queer in the Northern Netherlands, on what we as queer people can find in this region and what we are missing, what we need from each other and what we can give to one another as a community. Here you can see the results from our pilot round last year. We are currently looking into ways for continuing/extending this project.
